Miles, Memories, and Merit: A Two-Year Journey to Success

For the past two years, my eldest daughter Mia had been studying at a boarding school in Kota Bharu. It was her first time away from her family and I’m sure sometimes things can get tough for her. But she persevered because it is a very good school and she wanted to follow her brother’s footsteps to succeed in her SPM examination. So for that long two years, she’s been commuting to and back from Semenyih, sometimes on a bus but most time with a cheap flight that we scoured online.

She had her challenges for sure - adapting to a new school, new environment and new friends. Sometimes she will get sick and there’s nobody to help her around save for her teachers who thankfully brought her to a clinic every time. All in all, Mia had been a strong and independent girl. Not once we heard her complain about anything during her time there. So today, four months after sitting for her SPM examinations, it’s time to go back one last time to her school to take her results.

To say we were all nervous would be an understatement. We left early that day, before sunrise to catch the earliest flight to Kota Bharu and after a quick breakfast, commuted to her school. As expected, there were a few speeches from a university rep and the teachers. By 11 o’clock, they still haven’t announced or give out the results. Naturally, I took out my phone and checked her results online. Not gonna lie, I had my doubts but for once I’m so glad to be proven wrong. Mia got all As (9 total) for her SPM. 4 of them A+ (later after a recheck, 6 A+).

A group of people are holding certificates and signs with 9A+ on them at a gathering or celebration.

We are so proud of our daughter, Mia Ariana. All her hard work, sacrifice and perseverance had paid off. Hopefully, this will be the first stepping stone to more great things.
